The JUST Art Award
Competition
- Submission Deadline: May 8, 2024
- Award Info: The winning artist will receive £250 award.
- Eligibility: International
- Categories: Craft/Traditional Arts, Photography, Drawing, Film/Video/New Media, Mixed-Media/Multi-Discipline, Painting, Sculpture
- Online Only: Yes
New quarterly award for artists who want to change the world through the way they live or the work they make. Artists working with themes of environmental and social justice from anywhere in the world are eligible to enter the award.
Inequality in the art world is rife, around 85% of artists represented by US institutions are white and many classical paintings have been found to have racist undertones or themes. Not to mention the gender pay gap, of the $196.6bn spent at auctions between 2008 and 2019, work produced by women accounted for only £4bn, a measly 2% of the total sales. What's more, in music, performing and visual arts only 22% are from working class backgrounds compared with 60% from more privileged backgrounds.
The award by conceptual artist, Amy Jackson which launched in 2023 with the first winner receiving £250 in prize money to invest in their artwork. The bursary will take place every year and will be a minimum of £250 or 50% of the artist's profits that year (whichever is higher). Artists anywhere in the world, working in any medium are eligible but they must demonstrate an interest in environmental or social justice in their work or practice.
"It’s not just about giving a voice to those otherwise unheard but trying to demonstrate by example, a new way of living and thinking about money".
The award is open to any artist, working in any medium, anywhere in the world, at any age or stage in their career. The winner will be selected based on three simple criteria:
How conceptually strong the work or artist's practice is in relation to the theme "environmental and social justice"?
How technically strong the work or artist's practice is when judged as a piece of contemporary Fine Art?
To what extent will the bursary benefit the artist and their practice.
Entry requirements are intentionally simple in order to save artists time from lengthy open call applications. Simply prepare:
Your work (up to three images)
A brief description of the work (up to 200 words)
A link to complementary images or videos (if needed to explain the series of work)
A short biography (150 words)
A short explanation how this award will benefit you or your practice

Abandoned is an exhibition exploring abandoned and rediscovered objects, spaces, and structures. A popular genre in the photographic world is the trend of urban exploration ("urbex”), the exploration of abandoned or forgotten places to document the narrative of those who lived or worked there. Through the captured image, we can glimpse the ephemeral nature and memory of ourselves and our surroundings and preserve them before being lost to time and place. What do these structures and objects convey about society as we leave them to decay? What is the essence of time and place, and what-or whom-are we abandoning? Abandoned is an international open call for photographers ages 18 and older. All forms of traditional and non-conventional media, and conventional or alternative processes with a subjective analog or digital photographic base are welcome for submission.

It's the unexpected aesthetic that emerges when we embrace the imperfections of the creative process. Share Prize XVI, ‘ALL-NATURAL’
Competition
- Submission Deadline: June 9, 2024
- Eligibility: International
- Categories: Craft/Traditional Arts, Photography, Drawing, Film/Video/New Media, Mixed-Media/Multi-Discipline, Painting, Sculpture
- Location: Torino 10124, Italy
Share Festival, the Italian exhibition of contemporary art linked to technological evolution and science announces the theme of the sixteenth consecutive year of the Share award. The works nominated for the award must follow the theme described here:
SHARE PRIZE XVI
‘ALL-NATURAL’
For the XVIII edition of Share Festival, we make this demand because we know it's impossible.
Here in glamorous Torino -- a city known for its cordial support of "every form of art" -- we can't take one natural, untainted breath. Not only is the planet's whole atmosphere polluted with Greenhouse gases -- here in Torino, thanks to our industrial heritage and our specific geographic climate, we're particularly badly off from an all-pervasive haze of PM2.5 micrometer pollution particles, including metals, combustion products and even agricultural dust. As you read this, we breathe that.
And yet, at the very same time, our Italian province of Piedmont is world-famous for its devotion to hand-crafted, artisanal "Slow Foods" grown from the unique plant and animal varieties of the fruitful Italian soil.
In our forthcoming Festival, we plan to tackle this contradiction headlong -- through our favorite medium of technology art. Can this become a dialectic instead of a contradiction? Can we witness net.art that is all about birds, bugs, bees and natural local landscapes? Can we interact with robots made of natural woods, sculptures digitally carved from marble, and interactive artworks composed of horn, reeds, seashells, bamboo, straw, bones, fossils, or better yet, severely imperiled natural materials entirely unique to the artist's own region in the world?
It's not enough to "defend the environment" -- how can natural materials infiltrate tomorrow's unnatural substance and take some terrible, weedy revenge? Please do your best for us. We need a breath of fresh air!
Bruce Sterling, Direttore Artistico di Share Festival
Jasmina Tesanovic, Curatrice di Share Prize
Share Festival announces the sixteenth edition of Share Prize contest dedicated to contemporary art declined to technologies and sciences. The competition jury will award a prize of Euro 2,500.00 to the work (published or unpublished) which best represents experimentation between arts and new technologies.
