The late Lillian Orlowsky and William Freed were students of Hans Hofmann who studied with him in both New York and Provincetown. They were active at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum (PAAM) as artist members, instructors in the summer school, and they served on a variety of committees throughout their 50 years on Cape Cod. Lillian, in particular, was sensitive to the challenges artists face, especially those working against the mainstream or outside of popular schools of art. Her desire to provide financial support to mature artists through this generous endowment gift speaks to her passionate commitment to art created regardless of the demands and whims of the marketplace.

Grants are offered to American painters aged 45 or older who demonstrate financial need. The primary emphasis is to promote public awareness and a commitment to American art, as well as encouraging interest in painters who lack adequate recognition.

A jury made up of three art historians, artists, curators, and critics will review the applications in the late spring. Applicants will be notified no later than July 1, 2024.

The Center for Contemporary Printmaking (CCP) Residency Program offers Artists-in-Residence the unique opportunity to live and work inside a dedicated studio: the Helen Frankenthaler Printmaking Cottage. Within this space artists can produce a body of work in a supportive atmosphere that fosters creative growth and development, for traditional as well as innovative printmaking techniques.

The intention of the residency is to offer artists one to two weeks of uninterrupted, 24/7 time and privacy in a well-equipped studio with onsite living accommodations. This residency has proven to be an ideal opportunity for experimentation and collaboration. Artists can add to their work practice, explore new mediums, create an edition, or otherwise advance their printmaking skills. CCP strives to advance outcomes from the residency that stimulate original and inventive work that the artist might not otherwise have attempted absent these amenities.

One of the goals of our residency programs, whether Professional Development or Self-funded, is engaging our local community in an exchange of ideas and techniques. Artists-in-residence will have the opportunity to conduct a studio talk or workshop for the Norwalk community and greater New York metropolitan area. CCP will work with the artist to schedule and promote the additional programming through various outreach methods, including social media, to ensure a broad audience. Initiated in 1985 with the support of Jerome Foundation, Franklin Furnace annually awards grants to early career artists selected by peer panel review to enable them to produce major performance art works in New York City.

The Franklin Furnace FUND for Performance Art is supported by Jerome Foundation, the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, and biennially by the SHS Foundation in honor of Ruth Hardinger. FUND grants range between $2,000 and $10,000 based on the peer review panel allocation of funding received by Franklin Furnace. Artists from all areas of the world are encouraged to apply; however, artists selected by the panel are expected to present their work in New York City. Full-time students are ineligible.

Franklin Furnace has no curator; each year a new panel of artists reviews all proposals. We believe this peer panel system allows all kinds of artists from all over the world an equal shot at presenting their work. Every year the panel changes, as do the definitions of “early career artist” and “performance art.” So if at first you don’t succeed, please try again.

Since 1985, the FUND has helped launch the careers of Jo Andres, Tanya Barfield, Jibz Cameron aka Dynasty Handbag, Lenora Champagne, Patty Chang, Papo Colo, Brody Condon, Nicolás Dumit Estévez Raful Espejo Ovalles, Ayana Evans, Karen Finley, John Fleck, Coco Fusco, Kate Gilmore, Pablo Helguera, Donna Henes, Murray Hill, Holly Hughes, Liz Magic Laser, Shaun Leonardo, Taylor Mac, Robbie McCauley, Jennifer Miller, Naeem Mohaiemen, Rashaad Newsome, Clifford Owens, Pope.L, Dread Scott, Pamela Sneed, Fiona Templeton and Diane Torr, among other Franklin Furnace FUND for Performance Art recipients.

Hosted by SVA's MFA Fine Arts Department, this internationally renowned program offers artists an opportunity to work intensively in a private studio and receive individual critiques from faculty selected for their diversity, professional achievement and critical engagement. Artists are supported in their painting, drawing, printmaking, installation and mixed-media work, and are encouraged to push their practice to the next level, aesthetically and conceptually. Attention is given to contextualizing resident artists' work within contemporary interdisciplinary discourse.

Each artist has exclusive use of a studio throughout the program. Located in Chelsea, the studios offer privacy, while supporting a community that encourages experimentation and the development of new ideas and directions. Faculty will conduct studio visits and discuss each participant's work on an individual basis. Exposure to the New York City art world complements the on-site residency program. Equally important to the faculty critiques are the special lectures, scheduled approximately once a week. Given by guest artists, critics and gallery directors, these dialogues are designed to offer further insight into the realities of the working artist. Gallery tours are also included.

Participants will have access to SVA's Visible Futures Lab and the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art tools for both digital and traditional fabrication. The printmaking studio is available for an additional fee, and provides access to silkscreen, etching, lithography, letterpress and digital facilities. Participants must have a working knowledge of the printmaking process they wish to use in order to be granted access. Artists have access to the studios daily from 8:00 am to 11:00 pm. Overnight stays are allowed with entry to the building prior to 11:00 pm. The program culminates in an open studio exhibition.

Fusion Art invites both 2D and 3D artists, worldwide, to submit their best art and photography using black & white & the nuanced shades in between. Any subject matter and any media are acceptable for consideration.

The artwork can range from realism to surrealism to abstraction and all artists, regardless of location or experience, are encouraged to submit their best representational and/or abstract art and photography.

The Morgan Community College Center for Arts and Community Enrichment (CACE) oversees the Gallery of Fine Art located in a historic building in downtown Fort Morgan, Colorado. The Gallery opened in 2012, and since then has hosted juried art exhibits from local, regional and national artists. Most exhibits stay on display for five to six weeks. Local residents and art enthusiasts throughout the region visit the Gallery. It is free and open to the public Monday through Friday during regular business hours. In addition to its regular business hours, the Gallery has extended hours on scheduled Third Thursday evening Art Walks, artist receptions, and other special occasions and community events throughout the year The artist receives 90% of artwork sales; the Gallery retains10% to help with gallery maintenance and exhibit promotions.

Microbrewing, microdosing, microcomputing — so we’re giving out microgrants. Artists and curators are frequently asked to donate their time, labor, and money to make exhibitions or performances happen. We hope this grant will help offset some of that.

Something New; A Rotating Art Exhibit, Bainbridge Island, Washington.

The Something New program is a dynamic public art experience as well as an ongoing opportunity for sculptors to exhibit their work. The exhibit places sculptures in five outdoor locations in downtown Winslow on beautiful Bainbridge Island. The five locations are located inside the boundaries of the Bainbridge Creative District. The state of Washington now hosts 13+ Certified Creative Districts, which are defined as a walkable neighborhood designated hub for creative sector jobs, tourist, and cultural activities.

The five Something New locations include pedestals in front of Town & Country Market on Winslow Way and Erickson Avenue, at the south end of Madison Ave, S. (in the Doc’s plaza), at the entry door of The Bainbridge Island City Hall building, and in two spots along the central path in Waterfront Park.

Selected works will remain on display for approximately 11 months after which They will be removed to make room for the next collection of selected sculptures, offering Bainbridge Islanders and visitors “something new” every year.

In addition to the five new pieces to be temporarily exhibited as part of the Something New VII exhibit, Bainbridge Island has a Public Art Collection consisting of 24 works, the majority of which are also located in downtown Winslow.

The Gallery of Fluid Motion is excited to announce an open call for an upcoming art/science show exploring the captivating realms of fluid dynamics, aerodynamics, and flight, inspired by the pioneering spirit of Leonardo Da Vinci. This particular exhibition aims to showcase the historical interplay between art and science, with Da Vinci serving as a guiding luminary whose multifaceted genius continues to inspire innovation and creativity.

Although not a requirement, artists and scientists are encouraged to explore the intersections between art and science by drawing inspiration from Da Vinci's legacy while infusing their unique perspectives and interpretations.

Noun ‘pa-ləm(p)-sest, pə-ˈlim(p)-: a very old document on which the original writing has been erased and replaced with new writing. Something that has changed over time and shows evidence of that change.

Palimpsesto is a project in constant mutation, in which artists are encouraged to superimpose their murals or interlace them with the previous ones, achieving a new awakening of what was already on the wall. More than an individual work, the murals express the superposition of many hands, residences and artists. These actions are considered a way to embrace and, at the same time, demystify the work of the other.

These residences are aimed to career or emerging visual artists, with a special interest in muralism and / or urban art. Groups of up to 2 members can apply together to work collaboratively. In addition, in these residences there is the possibility of working collectively collaborating with other residents or local artists, as well as carrying out additional projects in mural festivals or in public spaces in the City of Buenos Aires.

The Palimpsest Project is a mural painting residency conceived as a “work in progress”. Recovering palimpsest word original meaning, our terrace becomes a living organism in which the artists paint their murals by dialoguing, intervening or overlapping with the previous ones.

This year’s Arts Stroll marks 22 years of celebrating the art and culture of Northern Manhattan. To that end, we are calling for designs that capture our rich cultural landscape and artistic heritage from the past to the present.
The 21st Uptown Arts Stroll/Paseo de las Artes is a hybrid of in-person & virtual programming in June 2023 from West 125th to West 220th Street in West Harlem, Washington Heights & Inwood. The Uptown Arts Stroll started as a volunteer organized one-day event the Sunday before Thanksgiving 2003 and grew into a month-long festival celebrating northern Manhattan’s visual and performing artists. The Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance (NoMAA) has produced the Uptown Arts Stroll since 2008.

New York Community Trust Van Lier Fellowship for Visual Artists supports a cohort of 3 visual artists between the ages of 18 and 30 years old for a residency at Abrons Arts Center over the course of 21 months. Each fellow will be paired with a professional artist mentor who is an alum of the Abrons Arts Center Visual Artist AIRspace Residency program. The mentor will support the creative and professional development of the fellows during the residency period. The Mentors are Park McArthur (Visual Artist AIRspace 2013-14), Baseera Khan (Visual Artist AIRspace 2016-17), and Elliott Jerome Brown Jr.(Visual Artist AIRspace 2019-20).

This studio residency offers the opportunity to develop professional portfolio pieces that express personal vision while exploring the wealth of resources available to illustrators in New York City.

With guidance from award-winning illustrators, participants will complete a body of work created from assigned and self-directed projects, aiming to showcase style, strong ideas and aesthetic direction. The goal is to advance your artistic practice to the next level and strengthen your position in the illustration marketplace.
A rigorous schedule, including sessions in portfolio development, sequential illustration, reviews and curated tours will complement independent work. Combined, these initiatives form an intense program that fosters personal voice and professional growth. Special lectures by guest artists, publishers, art directors and agents are designed to provide additional insight regarding the realities of a career in illustration.
Participants have access to a digital facility, as well as the opportunity to work in a variety of mediums. The program culminates in an open studio exhibition.
Faculty and lecturers have included Maëlle Doliveux, Tim Hamilton, Paul Hoppe, Aaron Meshon, Anna Raff, Miss Lasko-Gross and Andrea Tsurumi. Founded in Jackson Hole, Wyoming by Amy Ringholz, The Ringholz Art Supply Awards were built to recognize the needs of artists of all ages to be supported in their artistic pursuits. Her team aims to find the people that demonstrate the qualities that she has found has brought her to a solid career in the arts.

First, the RASA is looking for HARD WORK. Putting your time in with your medium is what takes artists from playing around with their art to their firm commitment to the relationship. This characteristic is imperative when trying to make a name for yourself in the arts. Secondly, TALENT. You can recognize talent in someone's passion for their work. When an artist loves what they are making, you can see it in the art. Talent is nurtured and pushed and expanded upon and simplified, and strongly coincides with the time and dedication in the studio. Lastly, RASA, pushes the HEART of the artist. It is important to remember where you came from as an artist, and to be grateful to those who encouraged you to begin. It is equally important to use your gift at some point for the greater good.

The RASA exists because one person had the idea to share the vision, to believe in the dream, and to return the favor. One small organization can do great things. Anything can happen when one person believes in another.

These are the questions that will propel and shape this three-week intensive. This program will bring together a group of international participants, Mitu teaching artists, and Indian masters to rigorously engage with these core ideas.

The artist’s personal mythology is often overlooked in an attempt to focus on technique, achievement, and success. But the question remains, what propels the artist? What is their belief system? What stories have formed who they are and the work they create? We believe the answers to these questions can only be discovered when the artist is asked to forget everything they think they know and in so doing, explore themselves outside of a context that is familiar: artistically, philosophically, aesthetically, and geographically. It is this belief that began Theater Mitu’s extensive and ongoing conversation with some of South India’s most accomplished masters and artists.

The American Library in Paris Visiting Fellowship was created in 2013 to nurture and sustain a heritage as old as the Library itself: deepening French-American understanding. The Visiting Fellowship offers writers and researchers an opportunity to pursue a creative project in Paris for a month or longer while participating actively in the life of the American Library.

There are two one-month Fellowship periods a year in fall and spring, with dates to be specified later.

A $5,000 stipend will be paid before start of a Fellowship period. The award, to be spent at the discretion of the Fellow, is designed to cover travel to Paris, accommodation, and expenses associated with the month in Paris. In addition to the stipend, the Library will connect the fellow to resources and people in Paris that could be helpful to his or her project.

The American Library in Paris Visiting Fellowship is made possible through the generous support of The de Groot Foundation.

What is expected of Visiting Fellows?
Visiting Fellows must be in Paris during the period of the fellowship, and are expected to be present in the American Library for a minimum of three half-days a week. During their residency, fellows will present an hour-long evening program at the Library, participate in a Library reception, meet with staff informally to explore a topic of mutual interest, and extend the Library’s reach by participating in events arranged by the Library with other organizations in Paris.

At the conclusion of the Visiting Fellowship period, fellows will provide the Library and the funding foundation with a written report of the Fellowship experience. Fellows are expected to appropriately acknowledge the Library and the Visiting Fellowship in publications and print media related to the Fellowship project. Fellows will participate in the Library’s social media communication, fundraising campaigns, and other public events.

Pictorum Gallery is thrilled to announce our upcoming collaboration with a London-based organisation for a queer artist on a public art commission, scheduled to coincide with Pride 2024. The City of St. Augustine is seeking an artist or team of artists to create an original, large-scale, outdoor, public art installation for the roundabout at the intersection of May Street and San Marco Avenue. The public art installation should be a signature piece for the St. Augustine community and should reflect some aspect of the City's culture, unique history, or natural environment. The artwork should appeal to a broad audience and should be site-responsive, and properly scaled to the surroundings. The site is located within a Florida Department of Transportation roadway and artwork will have to meet all FDOT requirements and have signed and sealed engineering plans.

The goal of the 2024 Macon Mural Festival (MMF) is to brand Macon, GA as a vibrant and creative destination. This year, we are looking for artists to participate in this 3-day event. Each participating artist will be given a prepped wall to complete their mural and a $2,500 stipend plus $500 for supplies. The Festival will also provide lodging for all artists. Murals can be open theme but must be approved by the business that sponsors the wall.

To kick off the festival, artists will arrive in Macon, GA on Thursday, September 12th. The festival will host a kick-off breakfast on Friday, September 13th, and then artists will have all day Friday and Saturday to complete their murals. All murals will be unveiled on Saturday, September 14th at our MMF Celebration Party.

From anatomical studies to landscape painting to the biomorphism of surrealism, the biological realm has historically provided a significant resource for numerous artists. More recently, bio art has become a term referring to intersecting domains of the biological sciences and their incorporation into the visual arts. Of particular importance in bio art is to summon awareness of the ways in which advancing biotechnologies alter social, ethical and cultural values in society.

This interdisciplinary residency will take place in the SVA Bio Art Laboratory, a fusion of a centuries-old cabinet of curiosities with a state-of-the-art biotechnology laboratory, which houses specimen collections, aquariums and a variety of microscopes, as well as an art and science library. Students will be introduced to the emerging field of biological arts through hands-on laboratory practices and discussions. Demonstrations include microscopic imaging, growing 2D and 3D biomaterials, painting with bacteria, culturing organisms and designing micro-ecosystems, working with bioluminescence, bioplastics and molecular gastronomy techniques. Discussion topics range from bioethics, genetic manipulation, climate change and sustainability.

Each participant has a private studio space located in the heart of New York City's Chelsea gallery district, and access to various sculpture and printing facilities in the BFA Fine Arts Department. The residency culminates in a public exhibition. Students may work in any media, including the performing arts. The program is led by artist and chair of the BFA Fine Arts Department, Suzanne Anker, and Tarah Rhoda, manager of the Bio Art Laboratory. Faculty and former visiting speakers include artists, scientists and museum professionals such as Heather Dewey-Hagborg, Oron Catts, Thyrza Goodeve and Francois-Joseph Lapointe.

Grant Categories:

Each year, WaveMaker at Locust Projects awards a total of $60,000 in grant funding to artists across Miami-Dade County in the following three categories:

New Work / Projects: Grants up to $6,000 each to support the creation and presentation of visionary, artist-driven new work / projects.

Long-Haul Projects: Grants up to $6,000 each to support launching, sustaining, or completing long-term projects. This category recognizes the time and commitment required to pursue long-term artistic endeavors.

R&D + Implementation: Grants up to $2,000 each to support research and development for ambitious new projects that take creative risks or benefit from a longer planning period. After the R&D phase, grantees are encouraged to submit a short-form proposal for an additional $4,000 to implement their projects.

Visual artists, curators, arts writers, cultural organizers, collectives, collaborators, and artist-run spaces at all career stages who reside in Miami-Dade County are encouraged to apply.

The symposium will be held from the 14th to the 15th of September, 2024 at the The Silver Spring Civic Building in downtown Silver Spring, Maryland, adjacent to Washington, D.C. (The dates and venue may be subject to change.)

Every artist/researcher of an accepted proposal will be provided with an opportunity to discuss the merits of his or her contribution with peers. It is required that the presenter will register for the symposium and present or perform in a session. We are open to proposals for paper presentations, workshops, experimental sessions, as well as artistic performance.

Three general admission tickets to ISVC 2024 will be provided for the Presenter/Team so that they can invite guests. Additional tickets will be available to purchase via ISVC website in the future.

The international exhibition “Visual Culture 2024” will be held at the CICA Museum from the 11th to the 29th of September, 2024. The artist can feature two works for the exhibition.

The climate crisis is an urgent global concern. Self as Universe: Mending Our Collective Ecosystem Residencies at A Studio in the Woods invite artists to explore the connections within our collective ecosystems and use the power of imagination to heal the wounds in the relationship between ourselves and our communities. Southeast Louisiana’s land and inhabitants are continually scarred by the effects of environmental degradation. These injuries – the historical to the present – affect our bodies, families, communities, and cultures, as well as the land and its other creatures. We encourage artists to guide our collective response as the caretakers and caregivers to our universe while bringing wisdom, integrity, optimism, and even humor to intentional and timely projects seeking transformation for our species and planet.

The Drawing Year is a full-scholarship postgraduate-level course run by the Royal Drawing School in Shoreditch, London. The course offers up to thirty students the opportunity to focus on drawing from observation for one year. There are no tuition fees and all students receive a free studio space.

Every course offered at the School is taught at postgraduate-level by a distinguished faculty of over 75 practicing artists. Students have three end of year exhibitions and international residency and teaching opportunities after graduation.

Applicants will usually have completed a BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art or a related subject, but this is not essential. Applicants are expected to show a strong portfolio of work demonstrating a commitment to drawing and a level of artistic professionalism appropriate for study at postgraduate level.

The Pence Gallery announces that its Emerging Artist Award 2024 is now open. This award supports the creation of new work by emerging artists in California and the opportunity to share that work through an exhibit and an artist talk in January 2025. Artists must use the award of $4000 to further their work in a significant direction and may work in any medium, except for video or sound art.

Artists must live in California at the time of application, and be 18 or older. ‘Emerging’ is defined as an artist who is early in their art career, who has limited experience exhibiting, but not an extensive solo exhibit history. The artist’s submitted work must be of high caliber, original, and completed within the past five years.

Born out of The Shed’s commitment to act as a platform for NYC-based, early-career artists working in a range of artistic disciplines, Open Call selects, fosters, and presents new work. The Shed supports selected projects with a commissioning fee of up to $15,000 of producing stewardship per artist or collective.

Grants are awarded via a democratic, national, open call, external review process. The first round of the application process consists of 6 questions. Our goal is to fund approximately 50 individual artists creating conceptually, aesthetically, and formally challenging, risk-taking, and never-before-seen projects.

The Canal Arts nonprofit is managing creation of a mural, Summer 2024, on this building, now under construction, being converted from offices to 44 units of permanent housing for homeless in Marin County by nonprofit Eden Housing.

This prominent building is considered the gateway to San Rafael’s Canal district, a community of ~12,000 mostly Latino immigrants, in the heart of Marin County. The theme of the project is the security of “Home”, with reference to the cultures of the Canal. Artists selected for the project will be expected to engage with representatives of the community, from concept to execution. This mural joins and complements a previous mural by The Canal Arts, Bienvenidos al Canal, for the building, which will be relocated from the west elevation to the south elevation.

Our projects are community-engaged. The Canal Arts conducts art training and practice with Canal families and will select 2-3 qualified persons from the community, paid by The Canal Arts, to work with, directed by, and learn from the selected artist(s). Artist selection will be by The Canal Arts' jury.The Canal Arts will create a video documentary of the project, made available to selected artist(s).

We are accepting submissions for our Virtual ‘Beauty in abstract’ Exhibition.

Rooted in VSW’s mission to provide support to experimental photo, film and media art artists, the goal of the Project Space Residency is to provide time, space, and resources to artists so they can create.

The 4 week residencies are open to artists at any stage of their career and take place at VSW in Rochester, NY. Project Space Residents receive 24/7 access to a private studio, digital printing equipment and an analog darkroom. They also receive a stipend of $1000, plus $250 for supplies, and a $500 travel budget for those traveling from outside the Rochester region.

We provide accessible housing for national/international artists in an apartment within walking distance to VSW. All of our Residents receive the support of VSW’s digital printing technician, program assistants, consultations with curators on staff and research support in VSW’s collections. The Project Space Residency also provides opportunities for artists to engage with the public through public lectures and Open Studios.

This pilot program provides support to help individual artists and culture bearers develop or
sustain their creative practices and meaningfully engage with Minnesotans. Grantees may use
funds to support their creative practice and meaningfully connect to and engage with audiences,
participants, students, and/or communities during the grant period.
Applicants may be working in a variety of art forms including dance, media arts, music,
photography, poetry, prose, theater, two-dimensional or three-dimensional visual art. Culture
bearers refers to individuals who have been trained by traditional elders or master artists and
whose artistic practice is reflective of the cultural life of a community that shares a common
ethnicity, geographic or regional identity, occupation, language, or tribal affiliation.

All eligible applicants must also:
-Have a history of producing artistic work;
-Have been actively engaging members of the public with their artistic work for at least two
years prior to the application deadline;
- Be a United States citizen or have attained permanent resident status;
- Be at least 18 years of age; and
-Have been a Minnesota resident for at least six months prior to the application date, and
must continue to reside in Minnesota throughout the grant period.

Whitefish Bay, on the Door Peninsula in Wisconsin, has long been a creative haven for artists who are an important part of the local community and bring the process of creating art into daily life. Inspired by the history of the Dome House and the vibrant artistic community in Door County, the Al & Mickey Quinlan Residency gives an artist the opportunity to create work in a unique environment providing inspiration and solitude.

The difference between 99% of artists who stay students forever and artists who exhibit their work is their approach, commitment as evidenced by their ability to build a body of work. This six-month master class is designed to help artists hone their vision in creating a cohesive body of work and articulate that vision to the world. The curriculum features recorded lectures on creativity, time, intention, flow as well as bi-monthly live sessions each month in a group setting. The Masterclass artists also gain access to Fireside Chats and live critiques Q & As with artists, curators, publishers, and other art professionals all in the service of helping them nurture their work and how they present it outwardly beyond the art itself. This group includes artists from all different kinds of media. During live sessions, artists share their works in progress, artist statements, websites, and media articulating their work. This 6-month Masterclass is designed to help artists hone their vision in creating a cohesive body in a group setting with other artists. In addition to developing their voice, artists are guided towards articulating it in a variety of mediums for a mass audience. The workshop focuses on four main aspects of professional art development: I. STUDIO PRACTICE Over the course of 6 months, accepted artists work towards the beginning and refining a series of works centered around a topic, style, and idea of their choosing. The bi-monthly virtual group sessions allow students to pitch and bounce ideas, as well as share groupings of works as they evolve. II. CURRICULUM: LECTURES AND STUDIO VISITS The Masterclass uses a series of prompts, videos, and assignments designed to guide artists in developing their work in their own voice. Using excerpts from studio visits with many well-known artists (including Lari Pittman, Rosson Crow, Rebecca Campbell, Annie Lapin, Chris Trueman, Enrique Martinez Celaya, and more), participating artists expand their own vocabulary of how to arrive at new ideas. III. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Creating a body of work also requires attention to how it is communicated to future collectors, gallerists, museum directors, and curators. As the work starts to develop, the curriculum and assignments guide artists in communicating what their work is about through writing, a catalog, the artist’s digital portrait (website, social etc) and film. IV. COMMUNITY & CRITIQUES During live sessions, fireside chats, and unique live events, curators, artists, and writers offer invaluable insight into participating artists’ work. All participating artists have access to a private positive and exclusively art-based online community where they can share work and news about their career and discuss exhibitions, articles, studio visits, and anything else. As this class is virtual, participants will need internet access for the course content and Zoom for class meetings. First Person Artist First Person Artist, founded by artist Kimberly Brooks, is devoted to advancing artists' practices with a rich recorded curriculum, along with live sessions and exposure to working artists today. Artist / Director: Kimberly Brooks is a contemporary artist who exhibits internationally. Brooks founded the Arts Section of the Huffington Post. Her work is the subject of numerous books and she is also the author of The New Oil Painting, a now best-selling painting book released by Chronicle Books in 2021. Brooks also conducts workshops at institutions including The Anderson Ranch Art Center, Kipaipai and the Otis School of Art and Design. The cost of this workshop is $2400 over 6 months. Accepted applicants are billed $397 monthly. The application fee is to apply and does not guarantee entry.

With support from the California Arts Council, Blue Line Arts is hosting a variety group show of LGBTQIA+ visual artists. Addressing a community-identified need for increased representation, understanding, and inclusion, the exhibitions and an accompanying series of intergenerational arts programs will elevate LGBTQIA+ voices in Placer County and the surrounding region.

This will provide exhibition opportunities for roughly 50 artists and educate the public regarding the broad spectrum of diversity of lived experiences that exists within the LGBTQ community.

During an opening reception for the exhibition, local LGBTQ support organizations will be invited to table in the gallery, raising visibility for local support services and connecting LGBTQ individuals with a broader community.

All elements of the program will be provided free of charge to participants and audiences. Blue Line Arts will provide resources and information about local LGBTQ support services, helplines, and community groups throughout the duration of the show and workshops.

SOMA Summer is an intensive three-week academic program in Mexico for artistic inquiry that welcomes a cohort of international artists, curators, critics, and art historians interested in collaborative pedagogical models. Each SOMA Summer is organized around a different theme that provides a compelling conceptual framework for research and creative work.

In its 2024 edition, SOMA Summer will be structured after Argentinean decolonial philosopher Enrique Dussel's subject-subject relation categories to deal with entanglement as our object of study.

And what if skin was the center of our body and not its limit?

We are plural beings, entities constituted as part of an intricate biological-cultural-somatic system. The world we live in was here before we arrived. Each object, each concept, each event already had a history of its own. The labor involved in their becoming is not ours to claim. We are nothing but bonds, relations to other people; to plants and animals; to microorganisms; to the biosphere as a whole. Those bonds are the seeds that allow our thoughts, thoughts, and feelings to flourish. Complex causal chains bind us to the planet as a whole. Individual creation is a fiction: nothing is invented from scratch. All creations are collective. Gutenberg's printing press would have been impossible without Chinese technologies, without wine presses, without migrations, without minerals and grapevines. How can we live and create under that assumption?

Led by Taniel Morales (artist, Mexico City), Vivian Abenshushan (artist, Mexico City), and Yoshua Okón (artist, Mexico City), SOMA Summer 2024 will follow the methods of Paulo Freire's critical pedagogy. In this edition, participants will acquire and share knowledge through facilitated workshops and participatory sessions. This pedagogical approach is meant to counter the prevailing individualism and reductionist worldviews. Centering the program on different intersections between individuals, authorship, disciplines, knowledge, territories, and worldviews will enable the creation of exquisite irreplaceable hybrids.

Flowing Streams is a program of 7 artist residencies in rural Romania. Practitioners from Czech Republic, Poland, UK, Italy, Netherlands, Germany and Romania get a chance to be one of the 7 residencies researching the cultural ecology of water in some beautiful and secluded places from Romania's rural landscape.

In 1942, the Zanesville Art Institute held the ­first annual "May Show of Arts and Crafts" for artists in and around Zanesville. More than seven decades later, this annual exhibition continues at the Zanesville Museum of Art as the "Ohio Annual Exhibition." This highly anticipated exhibition, the eligibility for which has been expanded statewide, recognizes the extraordinary ­fine art and fine craft created in the Buckeye State and celebrates the museum’s commitment to discovering, encouraging, and recognizing Ohio’s finest artists and artisans.

Each year we look forward to presenting a stylistically and thematically diverse exhibition that captures the essence of Ohio’s vibrant visual arts scene. The people, places, and customs found in each unique region of Ohio inspire its artists, and the ZMA is in the fortunate position of recognizing and fostering this creativity.

In its 78th year, this competitive, juried exhibition welcomes submissions from all Ohio artists, in all stages of their career. In 2022, over four hundred artists vied for the opportunity to exhibit their work at the museum and earn the title Best in Show. About the Juror:

Christine Hubbell is an illustrator trained in botanical and scientific illustration at the Denver Botanic Gardens. Her work has traveled nationally as part of juried exhibitions, and she’s been leading art workshops since 2019. She is an advocate for creating and preserving bird habitat, loves to go birding, and is passionate about the birds she paints. She works primarily in colored pencil on drafting film, creating realistic portraits of birds and botanicals, often incorporating elements of storytelling and whimsy. When not in her studio, she's outdoors observing and recording natural flora and fauna. After many happy years in Colorado, she’s delighted to be “back home again” in Indiana.

The opportunity is open to individual artists and/or artists collective/ groups. They will work with the Wonderseekers team to design, plan, and facilitate a series of creative workshops to guide children, including our Young Design Panel through this process over the 9-month development phase. They will encourage children to express themselves through art, capturing their creative and imaginative responses to local environmental themes.

Join artists from around the globe as they share their love of acrylics in our AcrylicWorks 11: The Best of Acrylic competition. The Juror of Awards for our 11th year is fine artist Joseph Gyurcsak, who’ll select a First, Second and Third Place winner, along with 10 Honorable Mentions from at least 100 finalists. In addition to cash prizes for top award winners, all works of art will be featured in a special publication presented by Artist Magazine and American Artist.

The City of Asbury Park, New Jersey invites local, national and international artists or artist teams to provide qualifications for the City’s Art Bench Program. The Art Bench Program will see five art benches installed in Sunset Lake Park, the largest park in Asbury Park. These one-of-a-kind benches are envisioned to add beauty to our community while serving a practical function. To maximize variety, each artist or artist team will be selected to create only one bench. It is the City’s intention to select up to ten (10) artists or artist teams based on qualifications received for interviews and further consideration and will select up to five (5) artists or artist teams to design, produce and install an art bench.

The total budget for each bench shall not exceed $23,500.00 and includes Concept Fee, Artist Fee, Design, Materials, Engineering, Fabrication, Transportation, Installation and Taxes.

The moment one enters an artist-designed washroom at the Arts Center or Art Preserve, one steps into a story. Each of these spaces elevates the mundane to the marvelous, but their stories are greater than visual glory alone.

The Arts/Industry artist residency, celebrating its fiftieth year in 2024, was the backdrop for the birth of these jaw-dropping lavatories. Within the walls of the Kohler Co. factory, the Arts/Industry residency invites trained artists to collaborate with technicians and engineers, whose exchange of knowledge yields innovative works of art from both the Foundry and the Pottery. Today these works inhabit washrooms, galleries, museums, public art installations, and personal collections. They tell stories of camaraderie, creativity, exploration, and the unexpected; they embody the belief that art can enliven, enrich, and inform every facet of life.

Creators of all ages are invited to submit artwork in response to the John Michael Kohler Arts Center and Art Preserve’s world-famous washrooms. The call is open to all Arts Center members and anyone residing in Wisconsin. Visual, written, and performance art will be considered for inclusion in the exhibition Knock First, which explores the history and impact of the ten artist-designed washrooms created under the auspices of the Arts/Industry residency.

What is the story of your experience with JMKAC’s world-famous washrooms? How have their form and function influenced your home, your art, your life, or your worldview? The Open Call for KODA Fall 2024 Social Practice Residency program placed under the theme of Mental Health opens on March 5, 2024. Eligibility:

KODA’s residency program is targeted to mid-career artists working in all media and creating conceptual and socially engaged work. While the term “mid-career” is up to interpretation, we consider artists aged 30 years old or older, having a significant body of works spanning several years, with minimum 10 years of experience as professional artist, and minimum two solo exhibitions, as “mid-career”. They are often without current gallery representation.

Broadway Stages’ Arts Residency Award @ Kingsland Wildflowers is an annual open-call contest for unique, site-specific installations created by local artists for our green rooftops. Typically, the winning proposal is displayed on the Upper Meadow of the Kingsland Wildflowers rooftop community center throughout the outdoor season. The program aims to showcase non-intrusive, sustainable artwork that highlights our one-of-a-kind surroundings and encourages reflection on the environment and the mission and vision of the WE ARE NATURE series.

The award is sponsored by Broadway Stages and presented by NOoSPHERE Arts as part of the annual WE ARE NATURE Rooftop Series. The winner is selected by a jury consisting of representatives of all partners in the coalition behind the Kingsland Wildflowers community center and curated by NOoSPHERE Arts’ Deputy Director, Daniela Holban.

The theme for the 2024 A Vibrant Tapestry:

NOoSPHERE Arts’ guiding philosophy is the holistic view that sees the world not as a collection of separate objects, but rather as a web of relations between the various parts of a unified whole. Modern physics proves what mystical traditions have always known: all parts of the cosmos are interconnected and everything is in a state of dynamic flow.

The constant flux of nature gives rise to novel and diverse forms. A healthy organism integrates emerging variations without losing balance. In these times of opposing factions at seemingly every turn, it is helpful to remember that a multitude of colors and shapes are needed to make up the rich, resplendent, and resilient tapestry that is life. We are all part of a web in which no part is more fundamental than any other.

NOoSPHERE Arts’ long-time mentor and collaborator, leading systems thinker Fritjof Capra, says that ecological awareness, at the deepest level, is the intuitive awareness of the oneness of all life, the interdependence of its multiple manifestations and its cycles of change and transformation. He suggests that spirituality could be defined as the mode of consciousness in which we feel connected to the cosmos as a whole. We now know that whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves.

Bethany Arts Community (BAC) offers residencies to emerging and established artists for the development of both new works and works-in-progress. BAC welcomes artists working across any discipline and medium, including visual artists, sculptors, writers, playwrights, choreographers, musicians, composers, performance artists, filmmakers, and more to our Fall Multidisciplinary Residency. Any and all artistic mediums are encouraged to apply. Enjoy an environment where artists from different disciplines and walks of life can work in community and near each other, creating opportunities for generative collaboration and cross-pollination.

Residents will be surrounded by uninhibited creativity during their time at BAC, in the form of other Multidisciplinary Residents, local studio artists, BAC staff and board members, those presenting programs on campus, and more!

A unique component of residencies at BAC is Community Programming. As part of a residency, we ask each artist to develop and facilitate a Community Program related to their residency plan. This part of the residency is an opportunity for artists to engage with the local community in Ossining and Westchester County, and for the local community to engage with artists through their work.

The Fall Multidisciplinary Residency runs for two sessions, September 23 to October 7 and October 18 to November 4, each with its own cohort. Artists are provided room & board, a private studio conducive to artists’ medium and/or project, 3 basic meals a day*, and a $225 stipend per week upon completion of the residency. Artist is responsible for transportation to and from BAC and any supplies or materials needed for their practice. We ask that you only apply if you can stay for the entire length of this residency.

YICCA is an international call for artists, open to professionals from any country in the world. All kinds of contemporary artworks are allowed in the art contest: drawings, paintings, sculptures, photographs, graphics, mix media, video, installations and performances. VIEW is partnering with the Guild of American Papercutters (GAP) to showcase an artform largely unknown in our region, but found in different forms throughout the world. It is called Scherenschnitte in German-speaking lands, Wycinanki in Poland, Jianzhi in China, and Papel Picado in Mexico.

The theme of “Paper Trails” references our trail-filled Adirondack home as well as the paths papercutting has followed from its origins to our own country. This juried exhibit will include works of original design that are created with scissors, craft knife, and even sheep shears.

The Guild of American Papercutters was founded in 1988 and is headquartered in Somerset, PA, where it operates the National Museum of Papercutting. Visual artists of all artistic mediums are invited to submit an application to be considered for this community-engaged art opportunity. One artist or creative team will be commissioned to engage with 4-6 communities in Minnesota, culminating in a deliverable artistic intervention that commemorates the Farmer-Labor movement in Minnesota.

The Bothell Arts Commission provides funding and support for the arts through a vision of connecting, supporting, and inspiring the community through arts and culture. The 2024 Creative Arts Grant Program is a new program of work and aligns with all four of the Strategic Directions of the Bothell City Council’s adopted, Cultural Plan.

Art grant proposals are selected based on innovative projects by artists; or community/arts organizations that hire artists for their projects. These projects showcase artistic and cultural diversity, community building activities through the arts, and an appreciation for the creative spirit. Every project must end in a culminating event that is accessible to residents and visitors of Bothell.

The Accessibility Grant program provides up to $2,000 for arts and non-arts organizations and unincorporated groups to make arts programs/facilities more accessible.

Velvetpark Residency is a project based live-work studio, awarded through a selection process by open application. It is open to LGBTQ+ writers and visual artists to complete a proposed project. Applicants from across the United States are welcome to apply, however, MUST have a permanent residence.

The studio will be awarded bi-yearly, and will alternate between writers Winter/Spring, and visual artists Summer/Fall respectively. This schedule will continue to alternate into the ensuing years.

Velvetpark‘s Residency award is open for for an artists, writers, creators age eighteen and above, who are not enrolled in an academic program. The residency is for a 6 month term, as indicated in application form.

The VP Residency is housed within Crown Studios, an artist building on a floor of eleven working arts professionals in the Crown and Prospect Heights neighborhoods of Brooklyn, New York.

For almost two decades Velvetpark has recognized queer people in the arts, academia and activism, by featuring stories on, by, or about these individuals in the pages of the print magazine and online. It is in the same spirit that our residency program has been launched and expanded to include imaginative and enterprising LGBT+ creators, who need space to support and cultivate their work.

In “What Good Is a Photograph?”, Ric Kasini Kadour writes, “The photograph as language, as a tool of everyday communication, is not new. Twentieth century theorists have wrung every possible drop out of visual literacy as a concept. It does not explain a problem curator Marvin Heiferman frames as, ‘We know that photographs work, but not quite how they do.’ This is dangerous. We may go misunderstood. Or worse, we may be misunderstood by others…Knowing how something works is key to using it effectively.”

The mediums of collage and photography are bound together in an ongoing dialogue. The photographer makes pictures of the world. The collagist remixes those pictures to tell a story about the world we live in. “Today, we’re taking more photos than at any previous time in history,” noted EyeEm contributor Lars Mensel. “Many photographers are asking themselves how to set their work apart from that of their peers. Photography has become less about the skill to take technically perfect pictures–most modern smartphones accomplish this at the touch of a button–but how pictures are combined to tell a story.”

The Photography & Collage Artist Residency will invite photographers and collage artists to come together in dialogue, learn from one another, and make artwork for a series of exhibitions that explore the intersection of collage and photography. Unfolding in two tracks over the course of a week, we will ask, What happens when a collagist picks up the camera? What happens when a photographer collages their pictures? Presentations will explore collage in theory, artist practice, the ecosystem of art, the state of photography, and the history of photography and collage. Artists will shoot on film, explore the dark room, and make collage with the results. Artists will also shoot digital images which will be printed as collage material.

During the residency, artists will make an artwork that will be exhibited at the New Orleans Photo Alliance Gallery. The exhibition will take place 9 June-28 July 2024 at the New Orleans Photo Alliance Center (7800 Oak Street, New Orleans). A reception will take place on Wednesday, 12 June 2024, 5:30-8:00PM as part of Kolaj Fest New Orleans, 12-16 June 2024.

After the residency, artists will invited to submit 3-5 artworks that will be considered for an exhibition at Kolaj Institute in December as part of PhotoNOLA 2024, an annual celebration of photography in New Orleans, produced by the New Orleans Photo Alliance in partnership with museums, galleries, and alternative venues citywide.

The residency is led by Dafna Steinberg, MFA, professor of darkroom photography at Delaware County Community College, and Lance Rothstein, a photojournalist and street artist who operates the darkroom and teaches photography and collage workshops at the Morean Art Center in Saint Petersburg, Florida. The project is being curated by Ric Kasini Kadour, Director of Kolaj Institute and a 2020-2021 Curatorial Fellow of The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, and produced in partnership with the New Orleans Photo Alliance.

WHO IS THIS FOR?

The residency is intended for artists with a practice of collage and/or photography who want to explore the intersections of the two mediums. Residencies are open to any artist over the age of 21 from anywhere in the world.

The cost of the residency is $950 USD per artist. Kolaj Institute has a limited number of grants available to offset the cost of the residency for those in need. These grants are possible through the generous support of our donors. Travel to and from New Orleans, accommodations in New Orleans, and all meals are the responsibility of the artist.

Darkroom activities will take place at the New Orleans Photo Alliance on Oak Street on Tuesday and Wednesday. Cameras and printers will be provided though artists are invited to use their own cameras. Darkroom supplies will be available. Time in the darkroom will be facilitated.

The Film Photo Award offers two award cycles per year, each providing three distinct grants of professional photographic film and complementary film processing by Griffin Editions to photographers who demonstrate a serious commitment to the field and are motivated to continue the development of still, film-based photography in the 21st century.

The New York Center for Photographic Art (NYC4PA) invites photographers world-wide to submit images using any photographic process (print, image transfer, emulsion transfer, encaustic, black and white, etc.).

Though we often focus on the new and shiny there is amazing beauty in the decayed, the corroded, the rusted and it can make images of those items so much more compelling and interesting.

Consider the textures and colors in an abandoned, dilapidated factory or prison, the rust on an old bike, contrasting plaster and lathing on a corroded wall and the myriad of possible captures in a junkyard. Neighborhoods, disparagingly called “run down”, are treasure troves of “decayed” tumble down houses, “corroded” discarded toys, “rusted” cars, trash cans and so on.

Decay, Corrosion, Rust…. can take many forms; black and white, color, abstract – all photographic media are welcome.

Open Call for Artists: Take Action for Mental Health Art Show

The Take Action for Mental Health Art Show, hosted by the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance City of Angels Chapter, is set to take place on Friday, May 17, 2024. Featuring the creative works of 10 Los Angeles-based artists exploring mental health themes, this event invites submissions from talented individuals to show their work in a professional gallery setting.

Selected artists will each receive a cash prize of $1,000. This art show is made possible through the generous Take Action LA Grant provided by the California Mental Health Service Authority and the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health.

About the Exhibition/Event:

We're on the lookout for artists whose creations or personal journeys resonate deeply with mental health themes. This connection isn't confined to diagnosed conditions; rather, we're interested in artists whose creative expression or life experiences reflect a meaningful relationship with the mental health challenges we as people face every day.
Our exhibition revolves around the theme "Take Action for Mental Health," aligning with the CalMHSA initiative. The Take Action for Mental Health campaign strives to empower Californians to nurture their own mental well-being and that of their loved ones. The slogan "Take Action for Yourself, Take Action for Others, and Take Action for Your Community," underscores the collective effort needed to foster mental health resilience statewide.

Eligibility: This Call is open to all artists regionally from the states of Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, New York, and Maine. Those currently enrolled in undergraduate-level programs are not eligible to apply.

Artwork for the Rhode Island College’s Craig-Lee Hall will be commissioned through Rhode Island’s Public Art Law, which mandates that 1% of all state capital construction and renovation funds be allocated to the purchase and maintenance of public art. Through this program, the State recognizes that “public art creates a more humane environment: one of distinction, enjoyment, and pride for all citizens.”

About Rhode Island College

Rhode Island College (RIC) is the first public institution of higher education in the state of Rhode Island. Rhode Island Normal School opened its doors on May 29, 1854, in the same former church hall that was used previously for private normal school instruction. It was the eighth normal school opened in America. Its goal was to provide teacher preparation to young people from Rhode Island.

Rhode Island College came from these humble origins, providing opportunities for self-transformation to meet the changing needs of the people of Rhode Island – a commitment that continues to this day. About Craig-Lee Hall

Built in 1958, Craig-Lee Hall was named for two important figures in RIC history, Clara Craig and Mary Lee. Read more at https://www.ric.edu/news-events/news/buildings-ric-named-after-women.

The newly renovated Craig-Lee Hall re-opened for classes in Spring of 2019. The reimagined and expanded building now houses History, Psychology, English, Mathematics, Africana, and Film Studies departments. The building has 39 classrooms and communal lounge spaces throughout. Situated prominently at one end of the “quad”, the building has sweeping views of campus and the landscape beyond. The building is central to the college, both geographically and in serving all students, in some way at some point, in their college journey.

About Rhode Island College’s Public Art Master Plan

In 2017, with multiple new construction and renovation projects on the horizon, the college tasked the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts to work with the faculty and staff in creating a public art master plan for the campus. RISCA staff worked closely with the Steering Committee, conducting numerous listening sessions with faculty, staff, and students on campus.

Of note, the plan places emphasis on artworks that convey “freshness”, “newness” and “vitality”; that improve engagement, connectedness, and community on campus; that align with Rhode Island College’s mission; that offer opportunities for all to participate by placing art in accessible locations; and meets sustainability goals.

In 2023, RISCA met again with college leadership, determining that it was desirable for the new Craig-Lee commission to include components of student and alumni engagement and make the artistic process visible to the RIC community as a required part of the commission.

About the Project

The selection panel met in February 2024 and determined that the building presents excellent opportunities for artwork to be incorporated. Artwork might be commissioned for the interior or exterior.

Potential locations for artwork identified by the panel are:

Within the first floor “commuter lounge” (interior artwork).
In the gardens and/or plaza immediately adjacent to the west side of the building (but not to extend into the “quad”).
In the gardens and plaza areas adjacent to the south entrance and rain garden, or
On the south-facing exterior wall.

Guidance from the panel stated that an artwork for Craig-Lee might:

Reflect themes of empowerment, transformation, inclusion, and/or opportunity.
Be thought-provoking or inspire curiosity.
Celebrate RIC’s diversity.
Reflect the goals and values of RIC’s public art master plan.
Be a series of works uniting various spaces throughout or a single large work.
Create a welcoming atmosphere, increase collaborative space, and sense of community.
Artists will be asked to define how they anticipate making their creative process visible to the student body and alumni. Note, however, that a collaborative design process is not desired. Ideas for student interactions include but are not limited to:

Employing students to work with the artist/designer through direct hire, such as summer or winter break employment.
Leading workshops that share their unique process, materials, or methods.
Providing guest critiques of student work.
Being interviewed by students, such as for a campus blog or publication.
Sharing their artistic or design process through lectures, presentations, or weekly check-ins.
Fabricating a portion or all the work on site during the academic year or installing the work during times that are visible (with the caveat that studio space is not available).
If applicant is already a RIC faculty member (full time or adjunct), they will be asked to define how their anticipated engagement is different and in addition to what they are already contracted by the College to provide.
Application Requirements
Intent of the Call and Scope of the Work:

Please note: This Call for Artists is the first step in the RISCA/RIC public art selection process. It is not considered best practice for an agency to ask an artist to craft a proposal without financial compensation. Therefore, RISCA will conduct the application process online, with initial materials submitted in digital format through Café (see below) There is no charge to the artist to apply or to submit digital images. Optional informative sessions will be held on-site on March 24 and 28th. Applicants can learn more about the project, ask questions, and receive technical assistance with their application. More information.

At this preliminary selection stage, we request submissions from artists or art teams consisting of six (6) images representing work completed within the past ten years, and a written statement, narrative or resume that describes the applicant’s interest in the project including a description of how they anticipate interacting with the student body, if commissioned.

Three finalists will be selected from the pool of initial applicants. Finalists will be invited to visit the site then craft a detailed proposal including an itemized budget, scale models and/or renderings, and an in-depth project description. For this they will each be paid a $2,500 stipend for their work. This stipend is intended to cover all travel expenses: hotel, transportation, mileage, etc., for both the site visit and the subsequent presentation meeting. Finalists will not be reimbursed separately for any travel costs.

One finalist will be chosen from those determined to be “emerging”, defined for the purposes of this project as someone who has not yet received a commission in their career of $75,000 or more.

To be seen is to be heard. I WANT YOU TO SEE ME is a curated exhibition for art that is about the queer experience by LGBTQIA2+ artists residing in Oregon. Through this exhibition, UVA wishes to give a platform for queer artists to share their artistic practice and experiences. There is no specific theme within the exhibition, except to showcase works that pay homage to the kind of joy, grief, creativity, tragedy, and celebrations that are unique to the queer experience. The goal is to create dialog and conversations recognizing LGBTQIA2+ identities, ideologies, expressions, and politics. UVA is honored to be hosting this call for queer artists and creators.

Artworks for this exhibition will be chosen by a queer artist and/or curator who is prominent in the Pacific Northwest art scene and the LGBTQIA2+ community whom UVA invites to lend their eye and voice to select works for the project.

You are invited to submit artwork (2D only) to be considered for inclusion in an exhibition at Oceanside Museum of Art (OMA): More Disruption: Representational Art in Flux, will explore representational painting that has been reshaped and “disrupted”—including by abstraction, web-based imagery, and socio-political concerns—in response to contemporary life and its challenges.

Faced with an overflow of images, today’s artists are challenged to find the combination of subjects and individual hybrid styles that best express what it feels to be alive now. Responding to life’s disruptions engages their artistic imagination and the resulting works energize the flux of contemporary representational art.

This exhibition is inspired by John Seed’s book of the same name as well as his earlier book Disrupted Realism: Paintings for a Distracted World. It also celebrates OMA’s mission to share the art and stories of Southern California artists. Artists Aleah Chapin and Timothy Robert Smith, who are among the 43 artists featured in the book More Disruption: Representational Art, will be featured.

Pots-n-Prints invites artists to submit work to the 2024 Pots-n-Prints national juried exhibition. The juried exhibition is open to artists who work in traditional and alternative methods used in ceramics and printmaking. This call is open to artists who are at different levels in their career.

The Residency- Dorland Mountain Arts is an artist retreat comprised of 5 independent cottages set in picturesque natural surroundings on 300 acres along a northern ridge of the Palomar Mountain range overlooking the Temecula Valley in Riverside County, California. It is located about 65 miles north of San Diego and 100 miles southeast of Los Angeles.

About the residency – The Hortus Residency is open to established and emerging artists exploring the themes of nature and/or the human connection with nature.

Hortus Arboretum & Botanical Garden is an accredited botanical garden and arboretum located in the lower Hudson Valley.

It was established by two artists turned gardeners. This residency was formed to provide opportunities for artists whose work focuses on nature. The residency will allow artists access to the botanical garden as part of their residency experience.

Housing: The Barnette is a small house situated in the hamlet of Stone Ridge located in the lower Catskill mountains of New York state. The Barnette is situated in a rural region on the edge of the Hortus gardens, surrounded by woods and overlooking NY state-protected wetlands. The Barnett is a greenhouse with solar panels, heat on demand, a wood stove, a 1-large bedroom, a modern bathroom, air conditioning, and an outside deck. It has easy access to the Hortus Arboretum & Botanical Garden. The Barnette has Hi-Speed Internet. Smoking is not permitted on the property.

Meals: Residents make and provide their own meals. The Barnette has a fully stocked kitchen.

The Interchange program is designed to strengthen individual artists in the M-AAA region (Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas) who have a history of impactful work with a socially-engaged creative practice by providing practice-based grant funding, professional development experiences, peer network access, and one-on-one mentoring. A program of M-AAA, the Interchange program is made possible through the support of the Mellon Foundation.

Interchange fellowships of $25,000 will be awarded to 16 regional artists in support of themselves and their socially-engaged creative practices. Fellows will participate in two professional development retreat weekends over the 18-month program. Working in small peer groups with the support of artist peer facilitators, fellows will explore their practices, goals, legal and financial strategies, and emotional-support structures.

You are invitied to submit a sculpture for placement in the Jordan Art Walk in East Jordan, Charlevoix County, Michigan. Now going into its fourth year, the walk has 20 sculptures.located along a path connecting the east and west sides of our town where the Jordan River flows into Lake Charlevoix. The walk is currently achored by the river estuary on one side and the city marina/bandshell on the other side. An accessible walking trail into the Jordan Valley will soon be connected. All the above take advantage of our abundant natural environment and is frequented and appreciated by locals and visitors alike. We will be adding 6-7 sculptures in 2024. This is a collaborative project of the City of East Jordan, the East Jordan Area Chamber of Commerce, the Friends of the Jordan River, the Jordan River Arts Council and Active Recovery Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine.

The City of Santa Clarita (City) is inviting artists to submit artwork for consideration for our upcoming “Celebrating Diversity” juried exhibition, which will be on view at the First Floor Gallery located in Santa Clarita City Hall. We are seeking original artwork in any medium that celebrates the myriad of cultures, perspectives, and identities that enrich our community. Artwork should explore our human experiences, aiming to foster dialogue with and understanding through visual narratives.

The AWAW EAG will support environmental art projects that inspire thought, action, and ethical engagement. Projects should not only point at problems, but aim to engage an environmental issue at some scale. Proposals should illustrate thorough consideration of a project’s ecological and social ethics. Projects that explore interdependence, relationships, and systems through Indigenous and ancestral practices are encouraged to apply.

The intended impact of the project is an important factor in the selection process. Environmental art projects that qualify for this program may focus on the following themes, but are not limited to:

Agnes Gomori is a London based multidisciplinary artist, healer and creative coach, specialising in ‘Healing with Arts’. Agnes has worked for US and UK based non-profit membership organisations for nearly 15 years in various roles. Notably, as the UK member network and programme manager, where she developed and led the UK mentorship programme. Agnes is passionate about helping fellow creatives develop their artistic talents.

Based in South Africa; Louise followed her passion for art early on, attending Art School for 4 years and going on to achieve a degree in education. Louise brings over 8 years’ experience in the art industry, from art auctions all over the world to working with one of the largest publishers in the UK with Whitewall Galleries. Louise has helped clients from all walks of life get happily involved in collecting artwork, from not only the likes of Picasso and Miro, but also exciting up-and-comers at all stages in their art careers.

Fellowships for Digital Publication are competitive awards granted to individual scholars to support interpretive research projects that require digital expression and digital publication. To be considered under this opportunity, an applicant’s plans for digital publication must be integral to the project’s research goals. Metamorphosis: The Changing Landscape – is a juried exhibition exploring our planet's ever-evolving landscape and the profound transformations occurring. We seek works exploring the impact of climate change, urbanization, and technology on our planet's delicate ecosystems and humanity's role in shaping the world. The exhibition aims to encourage conversations about our challenges and opportunities.

The juror will develop an exhibition from a selection of works entered into Metamorphosis: The Changing Landscape. Artworks that reflect upon the transformations occurring in our natural surroundings contemplate our planet's past, present, and future. This exhibition aims to encompass various perspectives and interpretations of the changing landscape. Any artwork that addresses environmental themes or depicts the interaction between humans and their surroundings is eligible for consideration.

Artists are encouraged to explore various facets of the changing landscape, including but not limited to:

- Climate change and its impacts on ecosystems

- Urbanization and the transformation of natural spaces

- The relationship between humans and nature

Juror – Katherine Fleming, founder and director of Bridge Initiative, a nonprofit that unites art and science to create public art for environmental advocacy. The organization came to fruition in 2015 after Fleming’s explorations in Antarctica enabled her to witness the jarring impacts of climate change. Fleming’s mission is to synchronize art and advocacy for a positive impact. Prior to Fleming's environmental advocacy work and the founding of Bridge Initiative, she graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York City.

The Folk and Traditional Arts Apprenticeship program honors and encourages the preservation of North Dakota's diverse living traditions by providing funding up to $4,500 for master traditional artists to pass on their skills and knowledge to an apprentice(s) over an extended period of time.

Traditional and folk arts are shared creative expressions of identity passed from generation to generation within a family, community, region, tribe, ethnic group, occupation, or religion. Forms of traditional expression include craft, technical skill, music, dance, and ritual celebration. These art forms are usually passed from one individual to another informally, by word of mouth or by example.

A master may apply for and receive more than one grant if circumstances warrant, especially if the projects involve different artforms.

Our spring issue "Syncopation" marks our second year in publication and kicks off the first of four issues this year to contemplate the interplay between sound, visual stimuli, the written word, and lived experience. In 2024, we turn our lens to these multiform layers that dynamically shape our perception and expression alike.

For Issue 5 "Syncopation" specifically, we invite contributors to explore the multitudes of this musical form and how it reflects back into our lives. On a literal level, syncopation layers one or more disparate rhythm schemes into the same musical piece or segment. A syncopated rhythm can disrupt, accentuate, and/or obscure the initial theme, bringing with it any combination of surprise, whimsy, color, clarity, confusion, stark and/or complex emotion. What story do these layers tell? Where do we see and feel syncopation, within and beyond music? How do we experience syncopation in everyday life, society, socially? How do we express this visually?

These are just a few initial prompts; we look forward to reading and viewing your own takes on this issue's theme!

About the project
Building on a range of previous work from across the University of Cambridge Museums (UCM) consortium, we are looking to commission an interactive Pop-Up Museum to engage with a range of audiences in community settings across Cambridge city, and Cambridgeshire. We are committed to finding ways to take the Museums and their collections out into the community in exciting and inventive ways.

We'd like the Our Planet Pop-Up Museum to be interactive, giving visitors to the pop-up the opportunity to handle objects and take part in activities. The Pop-Up Museum will travel to various community settings across the city and region (to be agreed), during August-October 2024, promoting the UCM and encouraging participants to make a visit to the Museums and Garden (where appropriate). The organisation will be expected to deliver for the equivalent of 10 full days with a minimum of 50 hours face-to-face delivery.

The Pop-Up Museum needs to be able to engage a diverse range of audiences, including adults, children and young people, and intergenerational groups. It is expected that the interaction with audiences and the Pop-up Museum will be coincidental (rather than planned/pre-booked) and last between 5-30 minutes.

The Pop-Up Museum should:
Involve replica objects inspired by the UCM collections.
Be eye-catching with an element of spectacle.
Involve a way to collect audiences’ thoughts/feelings on the theme beyond the collections.
Be created with sustainability in mind, including plans for responsible disposal.
Be created to be transported, put-up, and packed away in a variety of community settings including outside summer festivals and inside small libraries.
Be inclusive and ensure it is accessible to our audiences.
Be hopeful, but thought-provoking in response to the theme.
About the theme
The theme, Our Planet, is defined by the UCM Collections in Action programme as ‘Exploring environmental change, biodiversity loss and unsustainable living’ and reflects the range of responses our collections can elicit to this increasingly crucial, divisive, era-defining issue. We are interested in conveying the following ideas:

Exploration and curiosity about the natural environment can create a sense of awe and wonder, and nurture appreciation for our planet.
Many of our ecosystems have resilience and can adapt to and recover from threats to their existence with our help.
Small changes can make a difference. You can make those changes in your local community and see their impact on your doorstep.
We are looking for a response inspired by at least two of the following UCM collections: Cambridge University Botanic Garden, the Sedgwick Museum of Earth Sciences, and the Museum of Zoology.

We will be running a workshop for shortlisted applicants to meet staff from these collections, where they will introduce research, objects/specimens and ideas related to these themes to explore in developing your final proposal.

What is red? This is your chance to explore, what does red look like, feel like, smell like, sound like? All "red" art will be considered and placed into an all red room. A speaker will play any music/soundtrack to visitors.

Provide a photo of the work and a brief description of the piece. $15 for up to 4 entries, $20 for 5 entries, and $3 for each additional entry, with the option for up to 10 entries for $35.

Jurors will select art for artistic merit, response to the call, and fit to the contemporary eclectic gallery space.

Zilberman is thrilled to announce an Open Call for Young Fresh Different: Miami Edition, in collaboration with Fountainhead Arts.

Young Fresh Different (YFD) aims to provide a platform for young artists and foster dialogues between them and the gallery. Originating in 2009 as a means of connecting with young artists in Turkey, YFD has since evolved into an annual group exhibition curated by an independent jury.

As Zilberman continues to evolve, so does YFD, expanding its reach beyond national borders with the addition of the Florida and Berlin editions. This expansion signifies a new chapter for Young Fresh Different, aiming to engage with diverse artistic communities globally and provide opportunities for emerging artists beyond Turkey.

Young Fresh Different Miami, in partnership with Fountainhead Arts, offers emerging artists in Florida a unique opportunity to showcase their work. Selected artists will receive a $300 USD honorarium, and their artworks will be exhibited in a group show at Zilberman Miami in the Design District, available for sale during the exhibition.

Every year The Bowery Gallery Annual Juried Competition is open to all applicants working in two-dimensional media. Past jurors have included prominent artists such as William Bailey, Rackstraw Downes, Paul Resika and Joan Snyder, and eminent critics like Jed Perl, David Cohen, and Stephen Westfall. Over the years exhibitions at Bowery have been reviewed in The New Republic, The New York Times, The New York Sun, Art in America and other publications.

Enrico Riley is a Professor of Studio Art at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH. He is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Rome Prize in Visual Arts, and the American Academy of Arts and Letters Purchase Prize in Painting. Riley has been the subject of solo exhibitions at the American Academy in Rome, the University of New Hampshire and Jenkins Johnson Projects.

He has participated in group exhibitions at “State of the Art 2020” at Crystal Bridges Museum of Art, “Black Bodies on the Cross” at The Hood Museum, Lori Bookstein Fine Art in NYC, and The Painting Center in NYC. His work is in institutions including the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the Studio Museum in Harlem, the Hood Museum, and The Nasher Sculpture Center. Enrico Riley has an MFA in painting from Yale University and a BA in Visual Studies from Dartmouth College. Riley lives and works in Vermont and New Hampshire.

The Black Genius Foundation continues its mission to celebrate and invest in the genius of the Black Creative Ecosystem through Strokes of Genius, an open application program that provides artists, curators, journalists and scholars with funding to develop new creative projects. Strokes of Genius fulfills our commitment to invest in the creativity and cultural production of Black artists and arts professionals in addition to the creative health of our communities.

Every year Manifest offers an opportunity just for graduate students to exhibit at our gallery in Cincinnati. This 18th installment of the Master Pieces project will continue to reveal the intensity and professionalism of students working towards their terminal academic degree in the field of art or design. Often the most exceptional work comes out of these artists’ immersion in their culture of study and intellectual pursuit. Manifest’s goal, therefore, is to select works that set the standard of quality that the artist is expected to maintain throughout his or her professional career and justify the degree of Master. The retrospective full-color hardcover Manifest Exhibition Annual publication, a 'yearbook' for the season, will serve as a visual documentation of these artists’ own benchmarks for years to come.

We are looking for creatives to add a touch of color to the Internet through an open theme contest. All the accepted submissions will be part of a public voting contest and will be shown on our website for one month for free. Competition results will be posted on our website and promoted on our Instagram account. Artists are also free to sell their works. We take 0% commission, and any sale inquiries will be directed back to the artists.

Art Scene West presents the Finest Art Showcase San Diego: an exhibition of fine art of the highest caliber. About the Abbey Mural Prize

Created in 1932 through an endowed bequest in honor of illustrator and muralist Edwin Austin Abbey NA, the Abbey Mural Prize awards grants to support the creation and restoration of public murals in the United States. Since 1940, the National Academy of Design has awarded funds to hundreds of individuals or organizations who are building on a tradition of public murals as instruments of social activism, neighborhood revitalization, and community engagement.

Juried by artist and architect members of the National Academy, the Abbey Mural Prize supports projects with grants ranging from $10,000 to $40,000. Grants are awarded to create or restore public murals, especially those that promote accessibility and serve local audiences. While murals are conventionally defined as paintings or mosaics on a wall, the prize also encourages proposals that broaden and expand the definition of what a contemporary mural can be.

Applications must be uploaded through Submittable. Submit a detailed proposal describing the mural project, as well as the reason and rationale for applying for this award. Include images and renderings.
Proposals that address potential community involvement in, or the impact on the community of your work will be prioritized.
Include the intended start date for the mural project; only projects with intended start dates before June 30, 2025 will be considered.
An itemized budget must be included. Please find a template below in the example application. The total project budget field is for the amount of funding requested from Abbey Mural along with any outside funding.

Canal Convergence 2024: Request for Temporary Public Art Proposals: Phase I

Deadline: Wednesday, April 24, 2024, 11:59 p.m. Arizona time (year-round daylight standard time).

Budget: We will accept budgets between $5,000 and $35,000 (USD), with a limited number of larger budgets (up to $50,000 USD) being awarded to new commissions and/or major works of a larger physical scale. Artists wishing to provide proposals for larger-scale budgets are required to demonstrate experience in successfully producing projects to the scale being proposed.

Eligibility: All local, regional, and international artists, artist teams, architects, designers, and multimedia specialists are invited to submit a proposal. International artists who apply must have remote installation as an option for their proposal.

Description: Canal Convergence seeks proposals for outdoor, temporary public artworks to be featured in and around the Arizona Canal at the Scottsdale Waterfront in Scottsdale, Arizona. Canal Convergence will be on view for 10 days, from Nov. 8–17, 2024. Some projects may be selected to remain installed for an additional 1–2 months after the Canal Convergence event dates. Artwork Considerations for Canal Convergence 2024:

Propose an artwork that speaks to the 2024 featured theme, Reflections.
Present multiple (2-3) installations for the event that can be shipped to and from Canal Convergence in the same truck, container, etc.
Propose art installations that are able to be located in smaller, more narrow sections of the ground, ground that is not level, and/or integrated into the landscaping without damaging or destroying any plants.
Submit art installation proposals that do not require 24-hour security.
Propose an artwork that encourages reflection on environmental issues relevant to the Arizona community. Some examples include water rights and conservation, heat mitigation efforts, etc.

This call is Phase I of II. Phase I asks artists to focus primarily on the proposal concept, images, rendering, and estimated total budget. Once Phase I closes on April 24, 2024, up to 30 proposals will be selected for Phase II via Scottsdale Public Art staff review. These artists will be asked to provide more detailed information on their proposals, which will be presented to a final selection panel composed of Scottsdale Arts staff and advisory board members, the city of Scottsdale and Salt River Project staff, and community stakeholders. Produced in partnership with the American Society of Media Photographers, The Bridge is an immersive 16-week educational hybrid of professional development workshops, in-studio visits, and dynamic interaction with diverse mentors and seasoned industry professionals. This program is designed to bridge the gap between traditional education and successful industry careers, empowering emerging artists to build vital connections with their cohort and evolve their professional practice and creative point-of-view.

The application and program are free, fully-funded through charitable contributions, and our emphasis is on reaching out to young artists from historically underrepresented communities. This program is for those committed to becoming a creative professional or advancing their careers.

"CAPTURE" invites photographers to celebrate the art of freezing moments in time. This exhibition aims to showcase diverse perspectives and stories through the lens of talented photographers, creating a visual narrative in our gallery.

Common Clay has partnered with the Working Class Creative Database to offer two one-year residencies for WCCD artist members based in East Sussex. These residencies are open to artists from low socio-economic backgrounds, who have limited access to ceramic facilities. The aim is to provide them with the opportunity to experiment with clay and engage in dialogue with studio members, visiting artists, and curators.

Additionally, technical guidance and studio visits/professional development with established artists and curators will be organised. Artists will share a 1300 sq ft workspace with access to materials, kiln firings, and use of equipment.

"2025 Taoyuan International Art Award," organized by Taoyuan Museum of Fine Arts (TMoFA), calls for global entries from 8 a.m. on 1 April to 5 p.m. on 26 April 2024 (GMT+8). The competition is open to participants of all nationalities, ages, individuals or groups, and the works submitted must be new pieces presented to the public for the first time and have never entered government-organized competitions in Taiwan.

With an aim to promote the experiment and innovation of contemporary art, Taoyuan International Art Award provides a platform for creation and exchanges to incubate new generations of artists, enhance international art exchanges, and cultivate art research and practices. The Award is organized biennially, with one year for entry submission worldwide and one year for the exhibition, so artists can have ample time for work creation and exhibition planning. The Call for Entries is open to works of any material, category, or field. Artists can submit the entry either in Chinese or in English. For artists who are selected in the preliminary review, the Organizer will cover the expenses for the basic exhibit build-up, fees for return transportation and the roundtrip tickets of coach (economy class) to and from Taiwan for foreign artists to partake in the exhibition in Taiwan. One winner for "Grand Prize" will be determined from the shortlist with a prize of NTD 600,000 and three winners for "Honorable Mention" with a prize of NTD 200,000.

The Blunden Prize 2024 is now open! We’re calling for artists from all disciplines to put forward their ideas for an art installation at our Elm Fields Farm scheme in Coventry, which is set to provide 148 affordable homes to the local community.

Artist will also be commissioned to produce their piece for Elm Fields Farm and receive two additional commissions for public art at other Stonewater developments. Two runners-up will receive a commission from Stonewater to curate a piece of public art for a site anywhere in the UK. This year’s O+ Festival explores the duality of noise.
In this year of consequential electoral politics, protest, war, disinformation, oversaturation and overstimulation we are seeking to examine, engage with and transcend the noise of our humanity.

Noise can be heard, seen or felt. It is not merely a nuisance or disturbance to be silenced but a dynamic force that shapes our perceptions, emotions, and interactions. It is a metaphor for the constant barrage of stimuli that inundates our senses, shaping our perceptions and influencing our behaviors. It is the gray area between what appears black and white where the majority of life happens. It can distract, obscure, and harm as it can also clarify, motivate and energize.

Within noise lies the potential for both disruption and innovation, discord and harmony. At once, noise has the capacity to uplift, inspire, and unite as well as to be used to disrupt or distract us from what is real or distance us from the sounds of our own minds. Noise can be righteous, insistent, a catalyst for profound transformation, a source of creativity, and a vehicle for social change. Through embracing the richness of noise in all its forms, we seek to foster a deeper understanding of the complex interplay between individual expression and collective experience. There are power dynamics inherent in noise – who controls the narrative, whose voices are amplified, and whose are silenced. Inequities and injustices are perpetuated by the amplification of certain voices over others. We can reclaim agency in the face of noise, forging connections, and building communities grounded in empathy and understanding. But we must reflect critically on the threats posed by the manipulation of reality in the digital age and not be overwhelmed into complicity by the din.

We are calling artists, musicians and writers of all mediums, genres and modalities to explore the paradoxical nature of noise and its role in shaping our shared human experience. They are invited to reflect on their own relationship with noise – to interrogate the sources of discord in their lives and envision pathways toward harmony and equilibrium. From vibrant murals that capture the pulse and persistence of life on a grand scale to immersive, intimate soundscapes that invite contemplation, to drum beats, exclamations, collective exhales and shared silence, we hope to build a symphony of noise– full of the beauty, dissonance, harmony and resonance, chaos, silence and amplification – in order to reframe noise not as a disturbance, but as a vibrant force of empowerment, positivity, liberation and connection from which deeper truths can emerge.

Artists from all countries are welcome to submit their works for consideration. You are welcome to submit works in any medium. (painting, photography, printmaking, video art, installation, films, sculpting, mixed media, poems, illustration, etc). The theme of the exhibition is OPEN.

A week-long, in-person residency that coincides with Kolaj Fest New Orleans (12-16 June 2024), during which artists will explore the city, learn about the history and materials of street art, and make artwork for public display that Kolaj Fest attendees and New Orleanians will be able to view.

In this week-long, project-driven collage residency, artists will delve into the history, methods, and major artists of the “street art” movement with a particular emphasis on collage. Participants will endeavor to put some of those methods into practice, taking their collage art out into the streets. Documenting the entire process will be integral to the project, as the resulting work will be published in a Kolaj Street Krewe zine to be announced at a later date.

This residency is an extension of the ongoing Kolaj Street Krewe project. Kolaj Street Krewe, an informal group of artists interested in this subject, explores the role of collage in street art as a practice and phenomenon. The group formed out of a chance meeting of FANCLUB13, Rosie Schinners, and Laurie O’Brien at Kolaj Fest New Orleans in 2018. Realizing the three of them shared an interest in collage street art, they decided to form a group and pitch a project at Kolaj Fest New Orleans in 2019. During COVID-19, the Krewe led a forum as part of Kolaj LIVE Online which resulted in a Call to Artists. In July 2021, fourteen artists participated in the virtual Collage as Street Art Residency. This history is documented in the book, Wallflowers: Collage as Street Art. Today, the project manifests as residencies, presentations, articles, and publications. An in-person residency took place alongside Kolaj Fest New Orleans 2023 and Kolaj Institute is offering this opportunity again during Kolaj Fest New Orleans 2024.

Leading the residency is Lance Rothstein, aka FANCLUB 13, who has been creating street art for over 20 years in over 25 US cities and 31 European cities. Rothstein writes, “I consider my work to be a bit like archaeology, collecting the discarded items from people’s everyday lives and rearranging them in new relationships. Then I usually send them back out to the streets in this new form, with a new purpose. I look forward to continuing my personal scavenger hunt, finding little trashy treasures and combining them into intricate relationships for people to come across on the streets.”

Artists will arrive in New Orleans on the Sunday before Kolaj Fest begins and will spend those days coming together to learn about the work and methods of several established artists and discuss new techniques and strategies, with topics such as Placement, Materials, Visibility, Message, and Legality. Each day, we will challenge participants to get their work out onto the streets, document the process, and share it with the group for discussion and critique. There will be sanctioned walls where artists will have permission to put up their work and during Kolaj Fest attendees will be encouraged to seek them out as they tour the city. Once Kolaj Fest starts, the artists in this residency will be let loose from the formal sessions and encouraged to participate in Kolaj Fest programming while also keeping an eye out for street art opportunities. As Kolaj Fest comes to an end, the residency will meet once more to debrief and digest the experience together.

The cost of the residency is $750 USD. Registration to Kolaj Fest New Orleans is included in the cost. Artists are responsible for their own travel to and accommodations in New Orleans. No artist will be turned away for lack of funds and the organizers will work with artists to build a financial aid package.

About the Site: “Family Circle”

An exterior, accessible area outside New Highmark Stadium where family, friends, and fans can gather, take photos, engage with public art, and learn about the history of the Buffalo Bills.

This space is the ceremonial front door to the stadium with the highest volume of spectators coming into this corner of the stadium. This communal space visually and historically ties the existing team store and Highmark Stadium in with the new stadium and the Bills family future. The element that is the focus in the foreground is the family of Buffalo sculptures that range in size and height. The setting for these sculptures includes: a raised concrete plinth to elevate the sculptures, exposed boulders and cobbles on the ground plane, a large swath of tall ornamental grasses in the background of the sculptures, and concrete seat walls surrounding the space.

Framing this central communal area are seat walls, terraces and a variety of ornamental planting in the 3-4’ height range with large shade trees creating a corridor to focus the eye on the new stadium and Buffalo sculptures. The ground plane helps to tie all the Family Circle elements together. A mix of concrete and exposed aggregate concrete helps to reinforce the definition of the Family Circle while encouraging circulation into and around this space.

Buffalo Bills Highmark Stadium Background

Highmark Stadium is a stadium in Orchard Park, New York, in the Southtowns of the Buffalo metropolitan area. The stadium opened as Rich Stadium in 1973 and is the home venue of the National Football League’s Buffalo Bills. It was recognized as Ralph Wilson Stadium from 1998 to 2015, New Era Field from 2016 to 2019, and Bills Stadium in 2020. The stadium is open-air, with a capacity of 71,870. It has never had a natural grass field. In 1998, $57 million were spent to refit the stadium with larger seats and more luxury and club seating as part of the Bills lease renewal with Erie County. Highmark Stadium has hosted multiple concerts, including The Rolling Stones and the Grateful Dead. Highmark Stadium is well known for having some of the most fervent fans in the National Football League.

The Buffalo Bills are a professional American football team based in the Buffalo-Niagara Falls metropolitan area. The Bills compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) East division. Founded in 1959 as a charter member of the American Football League (AFL), the Bills joined the NFL in 1970 following the AFL-NFL merger. The franchise is owned by Terry and Kim Pegula, who purchased the Bills after the death of original owner Ralph Wilson in 2014.

The Bills won consecutive AFL Championships in 1964 and 1965. The Bills appeared in four consecutive Super Bowls from 1990 to 1993. The Bills have a current streak of five consecutive playoff appearances.

Buffalo Bills New Highmark Stadium Project Description

New Highmark Stadium is an American football stadium under construction in Orchard Park, New York. It will replace the Bills’ existing stadium of the same name and is expected to open in time for the 2026 NFL season. The 62,000-seat stadium is being designed by Populous, a group that has designed twelve other active NFL stadiums.

The project includes a new 1.35 million GSF open-air stadium, 18,750 SF ancillary building, demolition of the current stadium, and related site development. The stadium’s capacity will be a minimum of 60,000 seats with an expandable capacity to hold special events. Premium areas will include suites, ledge seats, clubs, and other premium seating products.

The stadium will include state-of-the-art video and scoreboards, sound system, administrative and event staff offices and lockers, broadcast facilities, team store, locker rooms, food service kitchens and concessions, signage, sports lighting, maintenance, and storage areas, plaza, parking, and site landscaping.

The groundbreaking for the stadium occurred in June 2023.

Over the next year, the Buffalo Bills Art Program at Highmark Stadium will include Calls for Art of various sizes and budgets for newly commissioned artworks. The first artwork to be commissioned will be the American Bison sculptures.

The Chicago-based Harpo Foundation was established in 2006 to support emerging visual artists, stimulate creative inquiry, and encourage new modes of thinking about art.

To that end, the foundation is inviting applications for its Visual Artists Grants program. About Habib Hajallie
Habib Hajallie is an elected member of The Royal Society of British Artists, winner of The UK New Artist of The Year Award 2022 and an honouree on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list 2023. Hajallie looks to champion figures from ethnically diverse backgrounds that have conspicuously been omitted from traditional British portraiture.

Recipient: One New York City-based artist working in performance art.
Grant: $10,000 to fund projects in performance, media, exhibition, and/or publication.
Requirement: Project must be completed within one year of receiving the award.

The artist selected for the inaugural 2024 grant will have the added requirement of being a mid or late-career artist, including past recipients of the Franklin Furnace FUND for Performance Art.

The selection panel will meet in July, 2024 and the award recipient will be publicly announced in October, 2024.

The Exploration Residences are part of a professional program that assists residents with the research resources and local contacts necessary for their specific projects. Participants receive reviews of their projects by specialized professionals and enrich themselves with the vision of the ´ace team, as well as colleagues-in-residence, during our frequent “Brainstorming” meetings. For their part, SUB30 residents also receive academic tutoring and critiques.

The Exploration Residences provides 4 weeks artistic “time out” emphasizing the process over the presentation of the results. Initially launched as Fresh Paint Magazine, we evolved into Create! Magazine in 2016 with a renewed vision: to shine a spotlight on the phenomenal talents of emerging artists across various mediums. Over the years, we have had the privilege of featuring thousands of artists worldwide, delving into the narratives, inspirations, and creative processes that fuel their work.

The Magnum Foundation and the Inge Morath Estate are pleased to announce the 23rd annual Inge Morath Award, a $7,500 grant given to a woman or nonbinary photographer under the age of 30 to support the completion of a long-term documentary project. One finalist will also receive a $1,000 grant in support of their project.

Inge Morath was an Austrian-born photographer who was associated with Magnum Photos for nearly fifty years. After her death in 2002, the Inge Morath Foundation was established with a limited-term mission to manage Morath’s estate and facilitate the study and appreciation of her contribution to photography. With the closure of the research space in 2014, the Inge Morath archive was acquired by the Beinecke Library at Yale University, and a set of Morath’s master prints by the Yale University Art Gallery, where they are now available to scholars.

To celebrate Pride Month, Arts Gowanus is partnering with Brooklyn Pride and The Old Stone House & Washington Park to present an outdoor art exhibit featuring works by Brooklyn-based LGBTQIA+ artists. We are currently accepting submissions for Pride: All Day, Every Day.
Artwork included in this exhibition should represent and celebrate what PRIDE means to the artist and/or Brooklyn's LGBTQIA+ community. Accepted artworks will be printed on vinyl banners and displayed on the fence surrounding The Old Stone House and Washington Park from June 1 – August 31, 2024.

This call is open to both emerging and established artists who work in any style or medium. This exhibition will also take place online, with the original version of each work available for sale on the Arts Gowanus website.

The banners displaying the artwork will be 36 x 36 inches and will include a short description of the artwork.

The 14th Annual PleinAir Salon is a monthly online art competition with 12 cycles, and is open to a variety of mediums and styles. It’s not just for plein air painters! We invite a variety of top master artists, museum directors and gallery owners to judge each month. All monthly winners are automatically included in the Annual Competition where the Grand Prize winner receives $15,000 and has their painting featured on the cover of PleinAir Magazine, the #1 representational art magazine at Barnes & Noble. The 14th Annual PleinAir Salon Awards will take place in May 2025.

That means the annual Perseids Meteor Shower should be on your bucket list especially if you live in an urban environment. These are evenings where you'll want to be up late, hang out in an adirondack or on the porch and gaze at the colorful action. "The Perseids is one of the best meteor showers to observe, producing up to 60 meteors per hour at its peak. It is produced by comet Swift-Tuttle, which was discovered in 1862. The Perseids are famous for producing a large number of bright meteors. The shower runs annually from July 17 to August 24. It peaks this year on the night of August 11 and the morning of August 12. The first quarter moon will block out some of the fainter meteors in the early evening. But the Moon will set shortly after midnight leaving dark skies for what could be an excellent early morning show. Best viewing will be from a dark location after midnight. Meteors will radiate from the constellation Perseus, but can appear anywhere in the sky." -seasky.org

As an artist, understanding the art of selling without “selling” is crucial in today’s competitive art market. In this Art Sales Academy the VAA will share the entire selling process, from introductions, creating compelling dialogue, to closing a sale and beyond. In these four weekly sessions, commencing on 30th April at 13:00, you’ll embark on a transformative journey to enhance your sales proficiency and develop lasting relationships with collectors and buyers.

The Production Residencies aims to support emerging and career artists within the Visual Arts for the production/creation of either new works (which may include an exhibition / a site specific installation) or a work in progress adapted for the local context. All kind of projects are welcome. However, due to its facilities and expertise, ´ace pay special attention to those proposals that questions the singularity of the art object by using the reproducible capacity of printmaking, photography, new media, design and/or their interfaces, blurring their boundaries.

The Program is intended to foster personal vision by offering professional and emerging artists a unique opportunity to create without interruption. ´ace team and associated professionals do support the creative process by way of facilities, mentorships and services in the creative studio. The residents will expand their art and experience by making contact with Argentine and other international artists, while working in the dynamic environment that the city of Buenos Aires provides.

Our flagship residence encourages the exploration of ground-breaking forms in contemporary artistic practices by offering facilities and support to produce new projects. This residency offers 4 weeks artistic ‘time out’ in one of the world’s most vibrant and cosmopolitan cities. Artists may work on individual or collaborative projects proposed by themselves.

South Porch Artists Residency is a retreat space for working artists, scholars and clergy to pursue creative projects. Located on an historic property in downtown Summerville, SC, South Porch immerses residents in the evocative setting of a small Southern town, just half an hour from downtown Charleston. Up to six residents at a time are offered comfortable lodgings and studio work space, either in our 1835 Main House or contemporary Cottage Studio.
