In geometry, a torus is a surface of revolution generated by rotating a circle in three-dimensional space about an axis that is coplanar with the circle.
If the axis of revolution does not touch the circle, the surface is shaped like a ring and is called a torus of revolution. If the axis of revolution is tangent to the circle, the surface is a torus horn.
My objective with this painting was not to exemplify the geometric meaning, but to relate this figure with the internal energy that comes out of the heart and expands, radiating around us and returning in the same way to our central axis; spinal column touching our heart. This painting has been an internal healing therapy for me that has shaken me deeply. Somehow the energy that is perceived with the eyes and that in turn seems unreal causing dizziness is the same energy that flows through the Being and causes an emotion, a sensation or a feeling. You are seeing energy but the painting is not moving on the physical plane. The energy exerted by movement is unreal, it is optical, but it exists and makes you shudder. Just like love, which cannot be touched but is the most powerful force that makes us feel alive, so this TORUS is a reminder that within us, lives the most powerful force that drives us to act, create and think the most constructive and overwhelming thoughts, or the darkest and destructive. ©2020 Alejandra Sieder
