I took this image in New York City from the Indigo Hotel, and I was instantly captivated by the multitude of windows. Inspired by the city's energy, I decided to create a series of artwork using New York City as my muse, employing mixed media techniques to bring out its raw beauty.
To begin, I used the image transfer process to transfer the photograph onto canvas. However, I didn't stop thereāI intentionally tore the canvas to introduce a sense of imperfection and add an element of texture. To hold the torn pieces together, I employed clasps, safety pins, and twine, giving the artwork a unique and tactile quality.
By incorporating mixed media techniques, I aimed to capture the essence of New York City in a way that traditional painting alone couldn't accomplish. The city's diverse architecture, iconic landmarks, and vibrant energy served as constant inspiration throughout the series.
The combination of image transfer, torn canvas, and the addition of clasps, safety pins, and twine resulted in multidimensional artworks. This fusion of materials and techniques added layers of meaning and visual interest, enhancing the overall impact of the pieces.
In this series, I aimed to push the boundaries of traditional painting and explore the possibilities of mixed media. By experimenting with different materials and techniques, I sought to create a body of work that was both visually striking and emotionally evocative.
Overall, this series allowed me to express my creativity and convey the raw and tactile nature of New York City. Through the fusion of mixed media, I aimed to offer viewers a unique and immersive artistic experience, inviting them to see the city from a fresh perspective.
