Impermanence: Living a Transient Life
Impermanence: Living a Transient Life" is my latest body of work, which explores the fleeting nature of our existence and the transitory nature of life. The series features 22 never-before-seen works on paper, each one an exploration of impermanence and the beauty that can be found in the ephemeral.
In this series, I have revisited symbols that have been an integral part of my work for the past 20 years, including the line, the figure, butterfly, translucent figures and paint drips. These symbols serve as a visual language through which I explore the themes of transition and transformation. Through the use of these symbols, I seek to convey the fleeting and transient nature of life, and the beauty that can be found in the impermanence of all things.
This series also holds a special significance for me as it marks the culmination of my time in Chicago, and represents my last painted series before I embark on a new journey in Miami. As such, it represents both a reflection on the past and an embrace of the future.
The symbolism and themes in this body of work are deeply personal to me, and I hope that they resonate with you as well. Thank you for your continued support of my artistic journey.
Three Prayer Paintings
As an artist, I've always believed that art is a reflection of our reality. It's my work, my way of processing the emotions and experiences that surround us. The Three Prayers Series was born from a deep-rooted concern for the suffering caused by the turmoil of war and injustice all around the world. My heart aches for those who bear the consequences of war in all sides of the borders.
Transitional Habitat
"Transitional Habitat" is a series of small paintings on paper that explores the concept of transition and migration through the journey of the monarch butterfly. The artist depicts each work with one butterfly painted in black or white, symbolizing the challenges and risks faced by this beautiful species during its migration from Canada to Mexico.
Through this body of work, Gomez reflects on the parallels between the journey of the monarch butterfly and that of human migration. As a species in peril due to deforestation and pollution, the monarch butterfly's journey is fraught with danger, much like the experiences of people who migrate in search of a better life.
The art series "Transitional Habitat" is a poignant reflection of the fragility of our environment and the resilience of living beings. It highlights the importance of preserving our natural habitats and the need to create safe and welcoming spaces for all living creatures. With these thought-provoking works, Gomez invites us to contemplate the delicate balance between human progress and the preservation of our natural world.
