Statement
“With the subtle balance of materiality and the intangible, my work is experimental, wanting to inspire a contemplative state while reflecting on the playfulness of life”. – Gaia Starace
As a multi-disciplinary artist Gaia focuses focus on experimental art utilising a combination of traditional and contemporary techniques. Drawing from her classical Italian education in Architecture, Gaia explores the spiritual, physical and emotional connections between humanity and nature, integrating the sacredness of the space. Working within a strong conceptual framework, Gaia mainly utilises sculpture, painting and photography to create unique site-specific installations. Within a visionary and playfulness framework, Gaia aims to influence the viewer perception through a physical, emotional and aesthetic experience.
Tapping into cultural memories, environmental issues & spirituality, Gaia’s work –both in painting and drawing– exists at the boundaries of abstraction, influenced by minimalistic landscape and the movement of the figure: her work combines movement and stillness with the use of powerful brushstrokes and clean surfaces.
