Karen Kuo (b.1993) is an artist based in Los Angeles, CA. Her projects explore the ephemera of light, color, and patterned in architectural and imagined spaces to replicate moments of heightened emotion.
Kuo’s labyrinthine compositions feature recurring motifs of personal significance including spheres, light rays, parallel bars, and towers. Her painted geometric configurations and quilted ceramic sculptures use pattern-making as a tool for subconscious examination and intuitive expression.
Using a range of visual vocabulary from hyperrealist to perceptual to fully abstract, her work is best understood when viewed altogether, whereby a unifying language describing physical and spiritual life emerges.
She received her BFA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2015 and is based in Los Angeles, CA.
