Statement

My work is a zig-zagging path, a constant exploration of form, color, nature, history, emotion and chance. I have a need to keep learning and experimenting, translating my abstract forms from one medium to another. In this way, the work builds upon each other and grows as a whole, as one medium inspires the next.

I use a minimal aesthetic to explore negative and positive spaces, and how they work together. The voluptuous organic shapes are contained in decisive hard edges, occasionally revealing brushstrokes within, and depths when they overlap. These abstract forms take on personalities - they work together and interact, refusing or accepting each other.

The desert landscape around my studio plays a big role in my inspiration. The curves and slopes of the mountains and rocks, and the ever-present sun influence my abstract forms. The interpretation then represents an interior landscape within the exterior one.

I developed a fascination with transparency as a result of experimenting with glass, and have been replicating the effects with paint. The translucent shapes invoke a duality - acting as a metaphor of behavioral transparency. They can represent buried emotions or memories that sometimes come to light.
