A Common Thread

Born and raised in Southwest Virginia, Lauren Woodson has called Roanoke home for the past nine years. During that near-decade, she has worked for Roanoke Parks and Recreation in the Community Recreation section, hosted workshops, and served on the Roanoke Valley Preservation Foundation. She is currently an active member of the Roanoke Arts Commission’s Collections Committee.

Woodson finds her inspiration in Roanoke’s juxtapositions: City/Mountains, Industry/Nature, New/Old. Combinations of media directly reflect these juxtapositions as she collects ephemera into a permanent piece of Roanoke history. Woodson adds, “I believe viewing art with a personal narrative can give others the courage to engage in creativity and tell their own stories.”.
